Divorce

In every Missouri Divorce case there are at least two issues to address: Division of Property and Division of Debt. If you have children together, you will also need to address Child Custody and Child Support. Finally, if appropriate, there may be the issue of Spousal Maintenance.

All property accumulated during the course of your marriage must be divided. Property included not only furniture, personal items, cars, boats, etc., but also bank accounts, retirement accounts, and real estate.   Similarly, responsibility for payment of all debts must be decided, including responsibility for credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, and student loans.

Child Custody and Support are important and related issues. These issues should be reasonable and affordable under the circumstances, and should, as much as possible, take into account current and future possibilities and changes in costs and living situations. The focus should always be the best interests of the children.

Spousal Maintenance, sometimes called Alimony, is sometimes appropriate depending on your individual circumstances.
